We caught up with Kevin Proctor from the Melbourne Storm the other week to get a puppy update!

Kevin’s best mate is now about a year old, and keeps up with Kevin during his long distance training runs. Kevin also likes to takes his dog for walks around the local parks.
His staffy has now completely filled out to adult size and is obedient and loves to pose for a photo. We think such a cute Staffy like Kevin’s would have to get use to so much attention.

[Feature Story] Long neck and Murray River Turtles, Melbourne, Victoria

Feature story new turtles

Department of Sustainability and Environment have lifted a size restriction on Long neck and Murray River Turtles since the 1st of October. This makes these cute little creatures available to take home, look after and love.

Fresh water turtles are reptiles with clawed, webbed feet. They are around the size of a 20 cent piece when sold and can grow to the size of dinner plate. Both long and short necked turtles live almost exclusively in water for the first two to three years of their lives. They breath air and need to be able to reach the surface easily.

There are about 250 species of turtles in the world, of which 26 occur in Australia. These turtles are low maintenance and easier to care for than dogs or cats. The turtles live on water and land and you are able to interact with them in your home.

If you don’t have a pond or out door area, these turtles are able to be kept inside your home. They need larger sized tanks so that they are able to reach the surface to breath.

It can be said that some cultures consider turtles as good luck and they promote prosperity.

[Feature Story] Kevin Proctor buys a Staffy

Kevin Proctor of the rugby team The Melbourne Storm and his friend came in store
today and bought an new Staffy puppy.

Kevin and his friend were excited to take home their new best friend
who is still yet to be named. The Staffy puppy is unaware that he met
his match, but was happy enough to sit in his arms and go for ride in the car.

“Proctor played rugby union until he was 15, firstly for his primary school in New Zealand, before his family moved to Perth in Western Australia where he played for Perth Bayswater. He also had a year playing AFL in the west. When he was 15 his family moved to Tweed and was quickly signed to a scholarship with the Storm. After switching to Palm Beach Currumbin High School, Proctor made the Australian Schoolboys 2006-07, the Junior Kiwis in 2007 and Queensland under-19’s. He quickly made an impression after moving to Melbourne last year, becoming a pivotal part of the Storm’s under-20’s side, before making his NRL debut during the State of Origin series.”- www.melbournestorm.com.au

Cameron Cloke came to Upmarket Pets to find a new friend and housemate. He picked a tan female English Staffy, who is arguable the cutest of the litter. Cameron is not new to looking after dogs, as his parents and brother Jason own Maltese Terrier crossed dogs.

The biggest problem Cameron found was finding the right collar for his new little girl. Even Little Miss Staffy wasn’t very keen on her collar, she reluctantly did end up with a pink collar after Greg, Cameron and his friend Mark tried very hard to find something a little less girly.

Cameron is yet to name his new friend but ensures he will call back into inform us of his decision.

Greg and the Upmarket Pets team would once again like to wish Cameron all the best of luck with his new best friend, and all the best of luck in trying to keep up with her.

[Feature Stories] Koko, an Upmarket Pets Puppy!

Our Feature Story this month comes from Ann and Adrian, the owners of Koko, a Cairns Terrier cross Pomeranian! Ann and Adrian have had her for almost four years now and love her to bits.

Ann says, “Koko was bought from Upmarket Pets in August 2004. She was the cutest little puppy hiding at the bottom, behind all the bigger puppies. We asked to see her, and she climbed up on and gave me a tiny lick on my nose. My boyfriend had a cuddle and she snuggled right into him, safe and secure. It was love at first sight. We took her home there and then.”
